Judges commentary
An excellent turn out of haiku!
Our main criteria was good writing which captured the haiku spirit. Not all the entries were necessarily 5-7-5, and as this was only a guideline, you will find the occasional exception.
A big thank you to all who entered, we enjoyed over 250 entries from various countries.

Again, we would like to thank everyone who entered this competition.
From Diana Webb, a British Haiku Society member and published haiku poet who worked with a group of schoolchildren including Raheem Abdullah
ReplyDeleteBarrow Hill School, London U.K.:
Before going on the haiku-writing stroll by the Regent's Canal, the children had looked at some classical examples of haiku including this version of one by Issa:
little snail
slowly, slowly
climbs mount Fuji
When the spider landed on his white clip board, Raheem's haiku just happened. He and I were really excited at this moment.
